From Torontoâs zero-waste haute couture and London-engineered transformable designs to a dramatic live runway proposal, the Global Sustainable Fashion Week celebrated its Golden Jubilee inside Europeâs most majestic palaces.
When the historic curtains opened inside the golden ballroom of the Wenckheim Palace, it became instantly clear that this was not just another fashion week. The 10th Anniversary Jubilee of the Global Sustainable Fashion Week (#GSFW), organized by the National Fashion League Hungary Association under the High Patronage of the Mayor of Budapest, Gergely KarĂĄcsony, achieved something magnificent: it proved that high-end luxury and strict environmental circularity can merge into a flawless, world-class standard that easily rivals the traditional forums of Milan and New York.
Uniting visionaries, brand owners, designers university professors, and diplomats from more than 32 countries, this independent, non-profit movement transformed the Hungarian capital into the ultimate cross-border hub for the European fashion industryâs incoming “Twin Transition”.
The Grand Runway Gala: A Transatlantic Fusion of Materials
The visual heartbeat of the jubilee was the Eco-Fashion Runway Gala, orchestrated under the artistic direction of IstvĂĄn HornyĂĄk. Opened in an elegant bilateral sequence by the Director General of the Metropolitan Ervin SzabĂł Library, Ms. Ăgnes KovĂĄcsnĂ© Koreny, and GSFW Founder President Dr. Gabriella MĂĄnyi-Walek, the evening was an absolute triumph of material innovation and design for disassembly:
⊠The Milanese Ecodesign Icon: A major highlight of the jubilee was the prominent presence of Milan’s very own Giusy Bettoni, Founder and CEO of C.L.A.S.S. Eco Hub. To honor her revolutionary paradigm shift in global textile sourcing, the GSFW production team curated a jaw-dropping, avant-garde installation: the “Smart Manifesto.” This elite conceptual display was printed directly onto raw, deadstock industrial textile waste, sending a powerful shockwave of sustainable inspiration through the international press and VIP audience.
⊠Transatlantic Haute Couture – the Honorary Transatlantic Guest Designer of NDL and GSFW –  Torontoâs star couturier Adam X (who honed his elite craftsmanship in London at the ateliers of Alexander McQueen and Dior) stunned the ballroom with the world premiere of his zero-waste organic silk collection, “Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose”.
⊠TwinT by the HĂ©jja Twins (UK/Transylvania): Delivering one of the absolute highlights of the evening, twin sisters Tamara and Timi HĂ©jja debuted their contemporary brand, TwinT, presenting their highly anticipated collection, “Strong Vulnerability”. Originally from Transylvania and currently based in the UKâstudying at the prestigious University of the Arts London (UAL)âthe twins paralyzed the runway with cutting-edge, transformable, and multifunctional garments that seamlessly adapt to the modern body. Fusing avant-garde athletics with high-end versatility, TwinT proved that circularity lives at the core of youth culture: buy less, wear more ways.
⊠3D-Printed Luxury: Moving from New York, Dr. Kadian A. Gosler (KDN R&D Atelier) debuted her groundbreaking “Caribbean Baroque” smart-textile intimate apparel, showcasing how advanced 3D-printing technologies can construct the durable, circular silhouettes of tomorrow.
⊠The Romance of the Runway: The grandest emotional crescendo arrived during the showcase of Laplandâs Boienbill Clothing (fusing vibrant Ghanaian heritage with Scandinavian minimalism from upcycled garments). As a live singer accompanied the models, the designer suddenly dropped to one knee on the runway, proposing to her live on stage amid the roaring cheers of the international diplomatic corpsâcementing the true, affectionate spirit of the global #GSFWFamily.
Nurturing Next-Gen Talents & Heritage Preservation
The runway also celebrated the preservation of ancestral roots and emerging international brilliance:
⊠Agnes Krivanics Design (Hungary): Delivered an exquisite demonstration of heritage upcycling, transforming rare, antique family lace and ancestral textiles into breathtaking contemporary evening gowns.
⊠NAVONA Fashion (Hungary): Celebrating her 30th professional jubilee, Megla RĂłzsa presented a mystical, high-luxury collection inspired by the Hungarian “Wonder Deer” legend.
⊠Crocheted Dreams (Poland): Representing global talent development, Zuzanna Poprawska (Zuzia), the brilliant Polish designer and winner of the 2nd International Circular Fashion Competition, was fully funded and flown to Budapest by the GSFW board to debut her vibrant street-wear collection combining traditional crocheting with modern youth culture.
⊠Backstage Excellence: Casting flows and technical scheduling were managed flawlessly by corporate member Flow Models Hungary (led by Bokor Ăva), who directed the professional models with absolute precision across the entire dense, multi-continental designer lineup.
Policy-Driven Innovation at Budapest City Hall
The glamour of the palace runway perfectly mirrored the rigorous scientific and policy debates held inside the magnificent Grand Ceremony Hall of Budapest City Hall. Opened by Executive Director Ms. Szandra Titanilla Fuchs (Budapest Global Association), the technical symposium directly addressed the EUâs strict incoming Ecodesign (ESPR) mandates and Digital Product Passports (DPP).
The conference featured world-class presentations by Nils Bader (Germany’s Green Product Award) demonstrating DPP-compliant knitwear, scholar Ăva-CecĂlia SĂłlyom presenting blockchain-backed anti-greenwashing frameworks, and Dr. Bahareh Zamani analyzing carbon footprint Lifecycle Assessments (LCA) The academic segment culminated in an intense panel moderated by BalĂĄzs MĂĄnyi (CEO, CertEdgeAI) featuring Eija Salmi (Secretary General of Cumulus Association, Finland), Alessio Gugliotta (EIT Manufacturing South, Milan), Dr. Milan Mor Markovics, and Dr. habil. Edit CsanĂĄk DLA from the Ăbuda University.
The marathon week reached its grand cultural finale with “The Rhythm of Saree,” co-hosted at the Embassy of India alongside High Patron H.E. Ambassador Shri Anshuman Gaur, blending five-thousand-year-old unstitched Indian weaves with rare Himalayan Tibetan heritage shawls.
Elite Production and Strategic Backbone
Executing a summit across 32 countries requires flawless institutional support. The long-standing strategic patronage of VOSZ (National Association of Entrepreneurs and Employers) served as the structural financial backbone of the non-profit league.
Beyond debuting their brilliant TwinT fashion brand on the runway, the executive twins, TĂmea and Tamara HĂ©jja, masterfully orchestrated the entire complex operational, logistics, and media flows of the jubilee around the clock, serving as the President’s ultimate strategic right hands.
The 10th Anniversary GSFW Jubilee successfully established that Budapest has emerged as the definitive gateway for European fashion diplomacy, leaving an unforgettable, highly glamorous imprint on the global circular economy.
